Mackerel are very beautiful creatures, they are one of the oily fish, and are full of omega 3 fatty acids…. Most people need more omega 3s, as they are less common in our average diets, we get lots of omega 6 and 9 but not so much omega 3, which means the ratio is often way of what would be considered optimal!
Mackerel is great for our brains and bodies. People who consumme high levels of omega 3 fatty acids suffer less with depression, is it also thought to lower the chances of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It also contains the difficult to get vitamin D, which is helpful for many things including bone health.
Other things that are helped by increasing your oily fish intake are maintaining a healthy blood pressure, lowering the risk of diabetes, and helping with inflammation and joint pain. All in all try to increase your intake of oily fish to twice a week or 3 times if you can!
