The truth about your holiday baguette…
We’ve all been there, sat outside at a table with a red & white checked table cloth a bottle of your favourite holiday wine and the waiter brings over a basket filled with fresh crusty white baguette and a bowl of creamy alioli on the side… A (deliciously) deadly combo but there is an alternative if you’re feeling something crusty to dip!
A 6-inch serving totals around 416 calories. Not to mention, 79 grams of carbs and 926 milligrams of sodium and a ton of SUGAR!! These crusty loaves also lack vitamins, calcium, and other beneficial nutrients, and with all that carb and little fibre, you’re less likely to be satisfied. This makes it really easy to overeat, and dive into the whole basket before you’ve even touched your main meal.
Gluten filled to the brim these baguettes can play havoc on skin and gut, causing inflammation in the body that you just don’t want or need on your holiday!
However I am a big believer of balance and a little bit every now and then… So if you’d like to indulge then you must but enjoy every bite and just stick to one or two pieces. One of my favourite alternatives is freshly baked sourdough and good quality local organic olive oil.
