‘Cleanse’ your make up – Alexia Inge, co-founder Cultbeauty.co.uk

We’ve all become wonderfully experienced at cleansing our insides with the choicest, cold-pressed roots & vegetables; purchasing only the purest organic skincare made by virgins by the light of a waxing moon… but then we happily layer on cosmetics with the skin-loving credentials of car lacquer.

Time for a make up makeover! And it starts with the bag itself.

Have a look at your make up container in the cold light of day. Imagine if you had to do a “what’s in my make up bag” shoot for Vogue, would you be proud to show it off? Or, like with most people’s, do children run screaming at the sight of it?

Wash, dry clean, steam, bury or burn it, as appropriate.

The Pro-Make Up Shop produce an essential to kick off your cosmetics cleanse: The Make Up Anti-bacterial Spray, which can even be sprayed directly onto eye shadow pans to keep them clean (it’s also a great pro-tip to reset shattered powder pans, see YouTube).

Make up has traditionally contained more synthetic ingredients than moisturiser because it not only has to deliver beautiful colour, but also set it in one place, on a warm, oily surface, that moves continuously and sometimes cries and blows nose….

I like to start with a good primer – Sunday Riley do one that acts like make up Velcro – whilst at the same time treating skin with a good dose of anti-oxidants and allowing it to breath . Cult natural skincare company, Omorovicza have just released a dreamy concealer called Mineral Touch – very similar to the eye wateringly expensive Cle De Peau uber-concealer – and the ‘super-natural’ Los Angeles brand W3LL PEOPLE’s Narcissist Foundation Stick – evens one’s complexion with a natural, dewy finish. I contour my cheekbones with a hint of RMS Living Luminzer and in Modest -. Then I fall down the natural scale slightly and use the Kevyn Aucoin Primatif Eye Pencil because it is simply THE BEST – .The finishing touch is to bulk up lashes with a few layers of W3LL PEOPLE’s Expressionist Mascara (yes, a natural mascara that works… I know!) and I’m out-the-door.
