Christmas Survival Kit No. 4 | Hangover Cures

After a heavy night we tend to reach for the fizzy drinks, the fry ups and anything with carbs and sugar!!! It may feel great at the time but never really does what we want. Of course it is fun having a night out, but unfortunately it can leave us feeling pretty crappy especially if you have been boozing… and this is because alcohol really dehydrates you and depletes all our lovely electrolytes and vitamins which is why we get the dreaded headache, sickness etc…. In order to feel human again we need to replace everything we’ve lost! So… as we all go out lots more at this festive time I recommend the following ….

when you get in from a night out take 1000 mg of vitamin c and when you wake up take another 1000mg

drink coconut water or normal water before going to bed, as much as you can consume in a drunk state (hehe!) and make sure you do that as soon as you wake up too!

start the following day with hot and lemon to get everything working, wake the liver up to start cleansing the consumption of night before

Try to drink a green juice or smoothie to get as much liver foods in your body as possible things like kale, rocket, watercress, citrus, spirulina

Staying away from the bacon rolls and opting for a healthier approach to your hangover will make you feel a lot better and you’ll suffer for less! I have created some great hangover recipes for you! Good luck with the party season!

 

Chocolate Milkshake

3 medjool dates
1 tsp of almond butter
1 tsp of cacao powder
1 tsp of cacao nibs
few ice cubes
1 cup of almond milk
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
pinch of himalayan crystal salt (optional)

A little bit of what you fancy! This is completely guilt free! – it’s lovely and hydrating, high in antioxidants, good fibre content to get things moving, good source of protein and this will help to balance your sugar levels…also it’s delicious!

Whack it all in the blender and enjoy!
Asparagus SOS

small handful of spinach
1 apple
5 spears of asparagus
1 small tomato
3-5cm piece of root ginger
juice of 1 lemon
15 drops of milk thistle
Asparagus contains enzymes that help breakdown the alcohol residues left in your system. This juice is packed with antioxidants and is far better than the hair of the dog!

Pass all the ingredients through the juicer, apart from the milk thistle this needs to be added at the end!
