Ahhhh broccoli… so familiar, so easy, so super. It is a very nutrient dense veggie, a member of the cruciferous or cabbage family. It has amazing anti-inflammatory abilities, and because of its high vitamin C, carotenoid and flavonoid content is has real antioxidant power.
Broccoli is a rich source of sulfur containing compounds called glucosinolates, and has a unique combination of these which that help liver detoxification in both phase I and phase II detoxification pathways, (which is unusual).
These glucosinolates include something called indole-3-carbinol, which helps the excretion of oestrogen and this along with broccoli’s many other attributes give it its reputation for an anti-cancer super veg!
